Do you know the moments...

... when you hate the result of your efforts?
I wasn't sure about that bird quilt. I overdid the quilting of the background around the first birds. While working on, I'm quite pleased with the latest parts (working from inside out).
I pieced an old red fabric to have a base. This will be covered completely.

I found that my method of working reminds a lot of the way Jude works. It would be embarrasing to be copying her, and my abilities are way behind. I hope to find my own distinct style. Hand quilting always looks similar. And as she does, I don't plan a quilt, I let it grow.

In the upper left corner there is a painted bird. I guess I'll do some more of that kind (sorry, Rayna...). This textile paint is not as stiff as the acrylics I used before and allows hand-quilting -- which is addictive, I agree! I think I'll be adding more painted and printed parts like the two roadrunners in blue frame.

It is a real slow cloth. Of course, I wasn't getting on during vacation. So when I have time now, I add a piece, and in the evening when sitting with my hubby, I enjoy quilting by hand and listen to the stories being told by the TV, giving the set a glance from time to time. I found out that in most cases you don't have to watch a lot to follow. The Hollywood ritual and the music indicate precisely when it is time to watch.

I hope you keep going, I think this is turning out great. I like that you are creating your own images with the painting and printing. I still like the birds in the bottom corner the best. Some similarities are impossible to avoid.

It's an uncertain journey when one is not approaching something as a designer. You make the television watching sound almost like a religious observance.

Susan, some things are! "Life on Mars" in the British version, for example.

Hi - thank you for the explanation of the star. I had no idea.

I like your bird quilt. It looks gorgeous. Whilst I have been feeling sad and blue, I have an ongoing indigo 'bits' quilt to just sit and quilt and contemplate. It too grows, interestingly. Rambling stitches, with a few shisha thrown in which makes me happy!

I like to stitch while I watch tv also. YOu dont really need to watch all the time to get the story I agree. When I was a reweaver I had the strangest advice from my eye doctor. He told me I needed to watch tv while I worked. It causes you to look up now and again to see what it happening and therefor exercising your eyes. Since I followed his advice my astigmatism has not changed. Before it was changing at an alarming rate.

Eva, this is lovely!!! I thought of Jude's work immediately when I saw the picture......more fine handwork. I love to have something to do in the evenings when we are enjoying a movie. We rarely watch tv, but we do love our Netflix...do you have them in Germany?? I can't wait to see more of this piece!

We don't have Netflix (yet).

I think this is a wonderful piece and does not look like Jude's, whose work is also wonderful but clearly, to me, not the same. (It's ok,Eva - birds are my problem, not yours.)

Yes, there is something about hand-stitching that is very zen. Maybe I should consider it again. Lowers one's stress level.

This is just enchanting. I love how you mix paint and fabric and thread.
