Judy, it was a Socialist invention which used to be memorized in the eastern countries as a counterpart to the more conservative Mother's Day in the west. When the wall went down, it was adapted by Unions and some left-wing democrats, as I am. I think it is an opportunity to remember that in many parts of the world, women are still lightyears away from equal rights.
