Global warming?

In my childhood, some winters were very cold. The lake in the background is situated right in the center of Hamburg, the "Alster", actually a river which was turned into a mill pond in medieval time. This photo was taken in 1955 or 1956, when I did a scientific research on the thickness of ice.
Then, in the mid-seventies, we had very warm winters, once on Christmas Eve 1977, it was 18° C/64°F. Now, we are going back to "normal" winters, it seems. Twice, at night, we had temperatures around -16° C/3,2° F.

if you live long enough, you see things in perspective...

Such a beautiful little girl, looking so happy! The winters seemed much worse when we were kids - we really did get more snow than we do now and it was much more fun. Global warming and the irony of it all...

I have heard that warmer winters in the Great Lakes part of this country are a continuing trend.

I remember more snow when I was younger but so far this winter we have had more than we have had for the last few years. People have forgotten what winter can be like.

such an adorable little girl....and I see so much of the young girl in the lady that you have become!
Our lake is beginning to freeze over, and I can remember not too many years back when we had the canoe out, paddling around on the lack on Christmas Day in tee shirts!

Stay Warm!
